How to Make a Living in the Arts
One-Day Workshop and E-course
FAQ
Q. How exactly does the e-course work?
A. This course is held via a password-protected e-course blog. A podcast will be posted Tuesdays by 6 PM EST. Throughout the week, expect resources, helpful links, and other media (some videos and plus additional media treats). Each week you will also be given fun, no-pressure assignments. Through the blog you will be able to interact with me and with each other. You can log into the e-course anytime you like, 7 days a week, to participate and comment.
Q. How long is this course and what are the dates?
A. The next course is slated for later this year. Sign up for my mailing list to keep up-to-date.
Q.What do I need to bring?
A. During the first week of the course, you will be given a short e-book to read (in pdf format). I will refer to this e-book and ask that you use its contents. I am also requesting that everyone obtain a journal that they can use just for this course (a large sketchbook is preferred). You are welcome to continue using this journal after the course ends, but it’s better if you bring a “fresh” one for this journey. We will turn these into creative pieces that help us bring our right brain thinking to a lot of left brain, strategic endeavors.
I will also set up a Flickr account, just for our group, in order for you to post photos of your journey. So having a Flickr account and a digital camera is helpful, but not mandatory.
Q. Will either the e-course or one-day workshop guarantee my success as an artist?
A. No. This is similar to the way that taking an acting class will not guarantee your success as an actor. What I offer are tools, strategies, new options, and a guideline for success. That said, much of the course is concerned with this question: How can I continue building an ideal life far after this course is over? I am excited to explore this question (and answers) with you. Keep in mind though that there is much perseverance involved, and only you have control over that. What I can do from my end is provide information and guidance that help you get on--and stay on-- the road that leads to your fulfillment and success.
Q. Will this class guarantee that I'll make money from my art?
A. No. Though this is the focus of the workshop, I can only point out options and processes. You must do the work of any financially successful person: building your “audience,” honing your craft, and finding your niche. Some of you may make changes as result of this course that bring in immediate income; for others it will take time. All situations are different. It is my goal through this course to help you strategize fully--and concretely--a life where you make lots of money from your art. Once you can see it, you can begin the work of making it happen!
Q. How many students will be in the e-course?
A. The number of participants online is 150; this allows for a large international community of artists, all helping each other. The one-day workshop is limited these days to 25 participants.
Thank you so much! If I can answer any additional questions not covered here, in my e-course outline, or registration pages, please feel free to email me. I love answering questions about this work.
